Off the coast, the port of Rotterdam is winning new land from the sea. Just as happened in 1970 when the first Maasvlakte was created.
To be able to stay a Main Port, a lot of investment is done in the Rotterdam port and industrial area. Continually, companies and the government are in the process of building. The biggest project now planned, is the construction of Maasvlakte 2, part of Project Main Port Development Rotterdam.
