Cinquante Fifty during Museum Night

Cinquante Fifty during Museum Night

During the Museumnight (March 7) till May 10, SIR presents the video installation Cinquante Fifty by Pipilotti Rist (Swiss, 1962) in the parking lot under the Erasmusbrug.

The installation consists of four video projections with two image sources and one sound source.
The work was first conceived for an underground parking lot, where it was also first exhibited, in the ‘Over the Edges’ show at the S.M.A.K. in Gent in spring 2000. In summer 2002, Pipilotti Rist presented a version specially adapted to her solo exhibition at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht.

Two sets of two identical video images are projected on two corners, one onto a corner situation and the other into a corner of the room. The corners are diagonally opposed to each other. The edges of the projections are exactly where the two walls join and where the walls and the floor join. (Ideally, they will also match the line where the walls and the ceiling join.) All four images are the same size. One image on each corner is the mirror image of that on the other side of the corner, the projections thus seeming to extend over the corners, with the two images converging on the corner edges.
