It’s Never Too Late to Say Sorry
It is never too late to say sorry!”.

THE COOLSINGEL-BELLMAN AND MOTHER AND CHILD BACK!

It’s Never Too Late to Say Sorry
Good news: Wim Konings, the well-known performer of the work of art It’s Never Too Late to Say Sorry (2011) returns from a long illness, and with his return the performance takes place again every Wednesday at 12 o’clock sharp. During the first year Konings appeared clockwise every day at the display at the Town Hall on the Coolsingel, he opened the door, took out the megaphone and blared across the Coolsingel: “It’s never too late to say sorry!”. For the past six years, the performance takes place every Wednesday, again at noon, between the ringing of the clock and the carillon play of the City Hall.

In 2011, the Scandinavian artist duo Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset made the sculpture and accompanying performance It’s Never Too Late to Say Sorry especially for this place commissioned by Sculpture International Rotterdam. In a display, as we know them as showcases in stores, a megaphone is placed that is illuminated in the evening like a jewel. The message that Elmgreen & Dragset convey with it is a personal, political as well as an everyday appeal to the passing public. You could read it as a `Powerless Gesture, after a series of works of the duo with exactly this title. It is located in front of the post office next to the Town Hall. Mother and Child (2001) of Carel Visser has been restored
The expressive sculpture entitled Mother and Child by the Dutch artist Carel Visser has recently been restored by foundry Binders. The artwork will be placed back on 20 May 2019 at its former location on the sculpture terrace of the Westersingel. Mother and Child is a composite work in which Visser – as in many of his work – combined found objects and waste materials into a whole that was cast in bronze. Referring to myths and fairy tales, it is a humorous but also painful sculpture, as it remains uncertain if the mother cherishes the child or devours it …
