André Volten (Andijk, 1925 – Amsterdam, 2002) was one of the most important postwar Dutch sculptors. He developed a non-figurative oeuvre in which he made extensive use of stainless steel. In the 1950s and 1960s his work was characteristic of new developments in art. His work was exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and in Duisburg, among other places, in group and solo exhibitions. In public spaces, he made many free-standing sculptures with a geometric language of form. For Rotterdam, he created seven works of art. In 1966 he received the important oeuvre prize of the Fonds voor Beeldende Kunst, Vormgeving en Bouwkunst.
