Auke de Vries

Auke de Vries (Burgum, the Netherlands, 1937) was educated at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Initially working as a painter and graphic artist, since the 1970s he has been making metal sculptures. His sculptures are light, abstract constructions composed of geometric forms that seem to float: lines, cones, cubes, cylinders and planes. With his sculptures, De Vries seeks to connect to the environment and architecture on site.

From 1972 to 1986 he taught at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague and from 1986 to 1996 at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. De Vries lives and works in The Hague.
