Since 2025, Narges Mohammadi’s artwork A Minute of Shelter has stood on Coolsingel in Rotterdam, serving as a memorial to the victims and survivors of femicide. The work was commissioned by the City of Rotterdam in response to the tragic murder in 2018 of Hümeyra, a 16-year-old schoolgirl from Rotterdam.
Earlier this year, SIR and BKOR organised Z-Files #33: A Minute of Shelter, bringing together thinkers and writers to discuss the role of art in highlighting the vulnerable position of women. The publication A Minute of Shelter brings together a number of their contributions: commissioned essays by political philosopher and researcher Catherine Koekoek and the Viennese professor of visual arts Elke Krasny, supplemented by a foreword by Sandra Smets and an interview with Narges Mohammadi.
The publication is will for €9.95, at Donner, vanGennep, NAi Booksellers, TENT, Stroom (The Hague), Savannah Bay (Utrecht) and Limestone Books (Maastricht).
