On February 9th, Richard Artschwager died at the age of 89.
Artschwager died just days after his second Whitney Museum retrospective “Richard Artschwager!” ended. Artschwagers work has been the subject of many important exhibitions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (1988 and 2012–13); Centre Pompidou, Paris (1989); Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin (2003); and Kunstmuseum Winterthur (2003) and is in the permanent collections of museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago, Museum Ludwig Cologne, and Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Paris.
Since 1988, the city of Rotterdam is the prowd owner of a sculpture by Richard Artschwager, an untitled work in the cultural heart of the city.
